Bishop Ronald Owen Hall proposed to set up Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre by renting a place at A Kung Ngam district in Shau Kei Wan on Hong Kong Island as a temporary home for children with problems.

1952

Bishop Ronald Owen Hall promised to lend the area adjacent to the Bishop's House to build Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre with $150,000 building cost donated by Mr. Noel Croucher.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club promised to subsidize the annual recurrent expenditure of Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre.

18 October 1952

Mr. Noel Croucher officiated at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre.

13 April 1953

The Governor of Hong Kong Sir Alexander Grantham and his wife Mrs. Grantham officiated at the opening ceremony of Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre.

Lawyer Mr. Woo Pak Chuen helped Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre register as a limited company of charitable nature.

1958Social Welfare Department started to provide subvention to Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre.

April 1970

Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre was formally approved by the Director of Education to be a subsidized school.

18 June 1972

The Director of Education promised to allocate a site in Wong Chuk Hang for Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre to build new premises.

3 June 1976

Mr. Chan Pak Keung generously donated $500,000 for building the new school.

24 November 1980

Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre formally approved the English constitution and was approved by the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department to be a charitable organization.

11 January 1991

The Bradbury Charitable Trust donated $10 million as part of the building cost for the new hostel which was then named "Bradbury Hostel".

1 August 1991

The Director of Planning, Environment and Lands, Mr. Graham Barnes officiated at the ground-breaking ceremony of the new hostel and school.

June 1993

The Chinese name 香港兒童安置所 was changed to 香港青少年培育會 with the new logo adopted.

The Director of Health and Welfare Mrs. Wong Chien Chi Lien, J.P. and the Director of Bradbury Charitable Trust Mr. de Lacy Staunton officiated at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre.

17 July 1993

The Director of Administration Mr. Suen Ming Yeung, J.P. and the donor of the new school Mr. Chan Pak Keung, J.P. officiated at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Chan Nam Cheong Memorial School.

1 September 1993

The school started to operate a secondary school section in 1993/1994 school year.

20 February 1994

Moving to the new address, the hostel changed its name to "Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre Bradbury Hostel" whereas the school changed its name to "Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre Chan Nam Cheong Memorial School". The land of the old address in Central was returned to the Bishop's House while the property on the land was unconditionally given to the Bishop's House.

12 April 1996

The acting Governor of Hong Kong Mrs. Chan Fang On Sang, J.P. officiated at the opening ceremony of the new premises.

September 1998

The school closed the primary school section and operated nine junior secondary classes.

1 September 2004

The school started to operate Form 4 classes on a trial basis.

29 April 2005

Mr. and Mrs. Denis Bray officiated at the opening ceremony of the new wing of the school upon completion of the reprovisioning project.

July 2007

The first batch of Form 5 students graduated.

February 2008The school established the Parent Teacher Association.

11 August 2008

The hostel started to provide residential care services for senior secondary school students.

31 August 2008The school established the Incorporated Management Committee.
1 September 2014The government optimized the teacher to student ratio of schools for social development by reducing the student number of each class from 15 to 12 year by year starting from Form 1.
1 September 2015The hostel started to operate short-term and extended residential care services.

9 December 2017

The Director of Social Welfare, Ms. Yip Man Kuen, J.P., presided over the HKJCC’s 70th Anniversary Launching Ceremony and Open Day.

April 2018

An Extra Curriculum Development Fund was established in order to nurture our boys in respect of Ethics, Intellect, Physique, Social Skills, and Aesthetics.

May 2018

Our organization took part in The Hong Kong Jockey Club “Peace and Awareness” Mindfulness Culture in School Initiative hosted by the University of Hong Kong – Faculty of Social Science; and we were honored to become one of the “Seeding Schools” for this project.

23 November 2018

Our organization proudly hosted a 70th Anniversary Celebratory Dinner, and we were honored to have Mr. Cheung Kin Chung, GBM, GBS, J.P., the Chief Secretary for Administration, as our officiating guest of the event.

September 2020

With the financial assistance from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and our own funding, we established the Mindfulness Room  - 「寧舍」 and the Mindfulness Corridor - 「心廊」, and commenced operation.

1 December 2021

The Flag-guards of Chan Nam Cheong Memorial School were formally established.

3 May 2023

The Director of Social Welfare, Miss Lee Pui Sze, J.P., presided over the HKJCC’s 75th Anniversary Celebration Launching Ceremony and Open Day.

17 August 2023

Today marks the 75th Anniversary of HKJCC. The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr. Chris Sun, J.P., officiated at our 75th Anniversary Celebratory Dinner.
